A Firefighter Resuscitates A Dog From An Apartment Fire
The situation was bleak inside an apartment building in Santa Monica, California. Firefighters were dispatched to Crystal Lamirande’s flat after a fire broke out. Crystal sobbed to firefighter Andrew Klein that her 10-year-old dog, Nalu, was trapped inside the house while they were battling the fire.
Firefighters are committed to saving lives, and Nalu’s life was as important to him as Crystal’s. He bravely carried his bag inside, crawling on his hands and knees through the smokey house looking for victims. He eventually discovered the dog, but she was still. When Andrew first saw Nalu, he described her as “completely lifeless.” Before beginning life-saving efforts, he carried her outside to get some fresh air.
Andrew gave Nalu mouth-to-snout resuscitation for the next 20 minutes. The dog didn’t have a pulse and didn’t appear to be breathing. As Andrew attempted to resurrect her four-legged pet, Crystal sat near him, sobbing and terrified. Other firefighters and bystanders rushed to their aid, silently hoping for the best. After what seemed like an eternity, Nalu awoke!
As she groggily regained consciousness, Andrew consoled the dog. The animal was terrified and weak, but it was otherwise unharmed. Nalu was taken to a veterinarian and placed in an oxygen tent for a period of about 24 hours. When she was released, she was back to her normal, upbeat self. We don’t want to think about what might have happened if Andrew hadn’t been so quick and effective with his abilities!
Thanks to this incredibly kind and brave firefighter, Nalu has fully recovered! The preservation of human life is extremely important to Andrew. It makes no difference to those who love them whether they are human or animal.
