GơIdеn Rеtriеνеr CеIеbratеs Hеr 20th Birthday

Wouldn’t you love it if you dog could live forever? Well, this sweet pup might not make it to forever but when she celebrated her 20th birthday, she became the oldest known living golden retriever.

August was born April 24, 2000. She started her new doggy life with a family but being their forever dog wasn’t meant to be. She was placed in two homes before finally settling in with her forever family when she was 14-years-old.

At 14 years, Augie, as she is affectionately known, was living in a shelter. Already a senior pup, her chances of finding her forever home seemed slim. Despite this, a couple decided they wanted to add her to their family.

Most senior shelter dogs are not so lucky. Since golden retrievers typically have a lifespan of 10 to 12 years, the stars were smiling down on Augie when she was adơрted despite her age.

Her new family brought her home hoping to give her some good final years. They didn’t expect her to live to 20. Despite her age, the pup is relatively healthy and still has good mobility.

She does have some kidney problems so her fur family feeds her wet and dry food and supplements to keep her healthy.

When August turned 20, her family gave her a party and invited all her friends. They made her a gorgeous banner and an adorable birthday cake to celebrate her big day.
According to GoldHeart Golden Retriever Rescue, in an article dedicated to Augie:

“There are many accounts of 17 or 18-year-old goldens, and even a few stories about 19-year-old goldens, but Augie is the first golden retriever to ever reach the big two-oh.”

Augie is such a sweet golden girl. She still enjoys walks and shaking. We can only hope that she can make it to her 21st birthday!
