Dog Stranded On Floating Chunk Of Ice On Frozen River Rescued By Firefighter

A labradoodle who apparently got a little too adventurous and jumped into a frozen lake found himself stranded there. Thankfully, a firefighter came to the dog's rescue and got her out.

A video of the incident is going viral. Lucy, a recently adopted labradoodle, ran away from her owners and somehow got into the frozen Detroit River in Michigan, USA. The dog then swam to climb a floating chunk of voice where she got stuck.

The video of the dramatic rescue was shared by Wyandotte Police Department on 2 March. The department shared the video as a part of their weekly review. “The poor pooch somehow managed to climb onto an ice chunk but it was drifting away in the river while the labradoodle was freezing," the department wrote while sharing the clip.

In the video, the firefighter uses the catchpole to grab the freezing dog. As soon as the animal was within arm's reach, the other workers were seen pulling it out of the river.

“The rescuer did this while standing on a slippery ladder that was submerged in the river while his co-workers held onto him via a rope. Truly an amazing and awesome rescue,” the police department wrote explaining the risks.

“She just had those big brown eyes, and she couldn’t talk, but she probably was just so grateful,” Wyandotte Assistant Fire Chief Tom Lyon told The Detroit Press talking about the “happy outcome”.
