Shelter's Rescue Dog Wins Hearts by Playing "Pattycake" with Visitors and Staff
With countless animals housed in shelters worldwide, it's a challenge to distinguish oneself from the rest. However, a lovable mixed-breed dog named Barbie rose to the occasion in the most endearing manner!
Barbie, a six-month-old pup, was surrendered along with another puppy to the Animal Care Center (ACC) in Brooklyn, New York. Her previous owners failed to realize the amount of time and effort required to care for two energetic puppies. Consequently, due to noise complaints from their landlord, Barbie ended up at the shelter, feeling lost and abandoned.
Barbie's lovable personality quickly won over the shelter caregivers. Her friendly demeanor and playful nature were evident as she eagerly stuck her paws through the crate bars whenever anyone passed by. With a wagging tail and boundless enthusiasm, this cheerful pup was eager to play with every person and pooch she encountered.
Volunteer Manisah Shah knew the pup was special right away.
“She is literally the most charming little pup,” she told The Dodo. “When we passed her kennel, we said hi and gave her treats, and she would flop around in her kennel looking for attention and hoping to be taken out. Finally, it was her turn, and she stuck her little paws out through the food slot. She is irresistible!”
Barbie was so cute and eager for love, ACC made a special post about her and shared it to the Boroughbred in Brooklyn Instagram page.
“She flops down dramatically and adorably, and if I wasn’t already smitten that would have done it!” they wrote. “She stretches her paws through the kennel bars to play pattycake, and that seals the deal. What is cuter — Barbie’s baby pink and black nose or her round puppy belly?”
After the shelter's social media pages posted a video of Barbie adorably extending her paws to play with passersby, the response was overwhelming. Within a day, a long queue of people had already formed at the shelter, eager to adopt Barbie.
“She was adopted fast!” Manisa said. “One of our followers saw our post and went to the shelter and adopted her quickly!”
The family that adopted Barbie wasted no time in finalizing the adoption process, and now Barbie is living a life beyond her dreams in Brooklyn, surrounded by loving and caring people. Her new family has even created an Instagram account dedicated to her, allowing her growing number of admirers to follow her journey.
With her ingenuity, this clever girl has turned her world into a Barbie wonderland, and it's paying off beautifully.
