Dog who spent whole life on heavy chain grabs rescuer’s hand
It’s not only people or humans who are affected in crisis. Animals are too.
As the war between Russia and Ukraine continues with no end in sight, people continue to flee their homes and look for places where they can find shelter. Families have been away from each other, especially those with their men mandated to fight for the country.
Yet, we sometimes forget how the animals are probably affected by this kind of conflict. They probably do not understand what’s going on and why their families left and abandoned them. Many stories on the internet highlighted these, including us here on Animal Channel.
That’s why we give our biggest salute to volunteer groups such as Love Furry Friends.
The group received a report that a pit bull was abandoned in a fenced lot when the residents were forced to evacuate the place. However, according to the report, this dog has been chained his whole life, even before the war.
They headed to the location and saw the poor dog’s situation. True to the report, he was chained, and it was too short for him to reach the kennel. There was also no food or water in sight, so the team deduced that he must’ve been starving for a really long time.
They entered the property and looked closer at his condition.
His neck had wounds where the chain was since he had no collar and was only tied with the metal chain. He was skinny, and his eyes looked sad. He reached out for the rescuer’s hand and never let go. The spark of hope was how he wagged his tail happily as help came his way.
They opened a can of dog food, and he ate it all in seconds. He must have really been starving. They removed him from his chain and took him home so they could give him the care he deserved.
The rescuers gave him all the love he needed.
He was provided with food and water, and they bathed him right after. It seemed like his first time taking a bath, judging from how nervous he looked. But he looked much better after that pampering.
They also took him to the vet to ensure he was healthy and safe. It was there that they found out he was already vaccinated, dewormed, and neutered; at least his previous owner did something good for him! The vet also took blood samples, which turned out to be okay. He just needed to recuperate.
And in only three weeks, he looked so different!
They named him Toby, and he was much healthier and happier. His wounds had already healed, and he was becoming very playful. He loved the outdoors and running around to play.
Love Furry Friends are now looking to find Toby’s fur-ever home with his loving family. If you’d like to know more details, visit their Patreon account. You can also donate to help out other rescues.
