Man breaks down in tears after pulling his missing dog from a fox hole
There’s nothing worse than when a pet goes missing. You search everywhere but face the gut-wrenching possibility that your friend might be gone for good.
But just when all hope seemed lost, one man had an incredible reunion with his beloved dog—in a video that’s warming hearts everywhere.
Alan Whitton, from Essex, England, adopted his Jack Russell dog Mitzi last November after his previous dog died of cancer.
Alan and Mitzi became inseparable best friends: “I call her my business partner because she is always with me, by my side,” Alan told Essex Live.
But after a year together, disaster struck. Alan took Mitzi on his usual mile walk around the woods, Mitzi was chased off by another dog.
It was the first time Mitzi had ever gone missing, and Alan panicked as his pet was nowhere to be found. He searched all night, returning with his wife and kids to continue the search.
“I didn’t want to go home without her,” Alan said. “But it was late we had to.”
He couldn’t sleep at night, he was so worried about his dog: “It was a really cold night … I thought she was going to die.”
The search continued, but still no luck. Alan put up signs around the area, but as two days passed it became less and less likely she would be found.
But just when all hope seemed lost, Alan got a call from a dog walker, who said her dog was unusually sniffing around a fox hole.
Hoping for a miracle, Alan headed to the site… and heard a faint, familiar whimpering… it was Mitzi!
Strangers rallied to help Alan dig up his dog: “I needed shovels, the lady who called me kindly gave me one and I started digging,” Alan said. “The people started turning up to help, it was amazing.”
Alan broke down in tears as he finally pulled his dog from the foxhole, a heartwarming video shows:
“I just broke down, I was overwhelmed with joy and disbelief, I had started to lose hope,” Alan told Essex Live. “It was like a Christmas miracle, all the time it felt like a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from.
After three days gone, Alan says that the first thing Mitzi did was eat a sausage roll. Despite everything she was physically okay, barring a few ticks.
Alan, a life therapy coach, planned to thank everyone who helped out with the rescue with a free session. He was extremely grateful.
“We are capable of so much when we work together,” he said. “It really has restored my faith in humanity.
We’re so glad Mitzi is home safe! Share this heartwarming story!
