Heroic Labrador Retriever Confronts Mountain Lion to Shield Family and Rescue Two Children

According to a report by KSLTV News, a brave Labrador dog from Cedar Hills, Utah, came to the rescue of his beloved family on July 19th by standing up against a mountain lion. Despite getting injured in the process, the heroic canine managed to survive.

Crystal Michaelis and her children were playing in their backyard with their 7-year-old yellow Lab named Ella when the dog spotted a mountain lion. Although Michaelis didn’t see the predator herself, she realized that Ella was acting oddly and appeared to be keeping an eye on both the kids and the area where the mountain lion was lurking. As a result of Ella’s quick-thinking, Michaelis brought her children inside, and upon returning to the patio door, they discovered that Ella had been severely injured in a fight with the mountain lion. The dog’s head, face, legs, tongue, and neck were all badly wounded, and blood covered both Ella and the door and terrace of the home. Although the family wasn’t present during the altercation, officials from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources found tracks leading to the area, and suspect that the mountain lion may have been distracted by goats in a neighboring yard and inadvertently wandered too close to the Michaelis’ residence.

While it has been some time since the mountain lion has been spotted, the Utah DWR advises individuals to remain vigilant and cautious. According to Faith Jolley, a public relations officer with the DWR, cougars tend to follow deer due to their dependence on them as a primary food source. Jolley also notes that deer sightings have been reported in the same region.

According to Michaelis, Ella had been bitten about 30 times, with the bites starting from her shoulders and moving downwards. This indicates that she put up a strong fight to protect herself. Despite her injuries, Ella is expected to recover. Check out the video below for more details on this story.
